Theological / Devotional

Cup. Compare ch. 25:15-29, where the various nations are asked to drink of the wine of the wrath of God, indicative of their destruction by the rising Babylonian Empire. That power in turn must now drink of the same cup. Under the figure of ancient Babylon, John the revelator describes the intoxicating power and final fall of spiritual Babylon (Rev. 14:8, 10 ; 16:19-21; 17 ; 18).
