Breasts. Heb. ‘atinim, only here in the OT. The meaning is uncertain. In the modern Hebrew, ‘atari means “to put in,” such as olives in a vessel. From this some derive the meaning “pails” (see KJV margin). The LXX has “inwards,” the Syriac “sides,” that is, “flanks.” The RSV translates it, “his body full of fat.” Whatever the correct translation may be, the figure obviously denotes prosperity.
