Theological / DevotionalIsland. Heb. ’i, at times meaning “island.” It is also a negative particle. Assigning to ’i the function of the negative yields the translation “He delivers the non-innocent.”
The meaning seems to be, God will deliver, at Job’s request, even the guilty.
The LXX gives an altogether different sense by translating, “He shall deliver the innocent.” According to this, Eliphaz was merely affirming one of his basic promises, namely, that God prospers the upright.
It. Rather, “he.” The LXX reads “thou.”
