Did I fear? Job seems to be endeavoring to make clear that he is not deterred from doing right by the fear of others. “Was I ever prevented from doing right by the voice of a multitude? When families or tribes brought pressure on me to do wrong, did I succumb to their persuasion? Did I remain in hiding and seclusion when I should have gone out to champion a righteous cause?” Job’s conscience is clear as he recalls the honesty of his dealings with people.
