Theological / Devotional

Sanctify. Heb. qadash, “to consecrate,” “to dedicate,” here probably in the sense of consecrating with religious rites or at least with official proclamation.

Solemn assembly. Heb. ‘asarah, from the root ‘asar, “to detain,” “to restrain,” here in the sense of causing all work to cease for the purpose of calling an assembly.
