Theological / Devotional

Horses. Locusts resemble horses in the shape of the head. See Rev. 9:7, where onrushing cavalry are described under the figure of locusts.

Horsemen. Heb. parashim, a word also designating riding horses (“war horses,” RSV). In rapidity of motion, locusts are like running horses. See on Ex. 10:4-15.
