Theological / Devotional

Of the Pharisees. That is, they were of the sect known as Pharisees. Some have suggested that the delegation was composed of Sadducees sent by the Pharisees, but there seems to be no valid reason for accepting this interpretation. The force of the Greek implies that the delegation was composed of individuals who were “of,” that is, who “belonged to,” the Pharisees. See on v. 19.
