Theological / Devotional

A woman. Literally, “the woman,” a typical woman. The figure of a travailing woman is found in the Old Testament (Isa. 26:17 ; 66:7; etc.). But only here is mention made of her sorrow turning into joy.

Man. Gr. anthropos, man in a generic sense, that is, a human being.
