Theological / Devotional

Fell to the ground. This incident is not mentioned by the Synoptists. The falling backward of the mob suggests some manifestation of divinity. The miracle gave further evidence to the murderous mob of the divinity of the One whom they were seeking to arrest. The repulse was momentary, for a few moments later they carried out their designs (v. 12).
