Commentary on John 2:15

Theological / Devotional

A scourge. Or, “whip.” Jesus did not actually strike the people. The whip was symbolic of His authority, and a flourish in the air would suffice to make His intention clear. No whip is mentioned in connection with the second cleansing.

Small cords. Greek schoinia, “a cord plaited of rushes.”
