Authority. In commissioning the Son to carry out the plan of redemption for the saving of man and the glory of God, the Father has also committed to Him the execution of judgment. That this should be so is reasonable, for the Son of God, a divine being, is also the Son of man, a human being, who has resisted temptation (Heb. 4:15), borne sin vicariously, and tasted death. Yet He is triumphant in the great controversy with Satan. No other being in the universe is thus qualified to pass eternal judgment upon men, and no other being can glorify and vindicate God by that judgment. See on v. 22.
