Theological / DevotionalThe Jews. By this expression John usually refers to the official representatives of the nation rather than the common people (vs. 12, 25). There was doubtless considerable uncertainty as to whether Jesus would be present at the feast. He had been absent from the preceding Passover (see on chs. 6:1; 7:1).
Where is he? Literally, “Where is that one?” ‘That one,” Gr. ekeinos, may here be used in a derogatory sense.
