Before it hear him. For the principle here expressed see Deut. 1:16, 17 ; 17:2-7; 19:15. Nicodemus pleads for just and fair treatment, according to law. When Jesus was later arrested and condemned to death many rules of Jewish jurisprudence were broken (see Additional Notes on Matt. 26, Note 2).
