Joshua 15:2

Bay that looketh southward. Literally, “tongue that faces southward.” The LXX reads, “from the high country that extends southward.” The Syriac translates this verse, “And their border was from the south of the shore of the Salt Sea; and it extended from there to the tongue that turns to the south.” It is probable that the translators of the LXX understood the “bay” to be the tongue of land projecting into the Dead Sea. The Syriac, in turn, was probably influenced by the LXX. The term is generally applied to the jutting promontory of land, but from the context here it applies best to the southern extent of the sea.
