Sharuhen. This was a town on the main route between Palestine and Egypt. It has been identified with Tell el-Far‘ah, which shows impressive evidence of ancient Hyksos, Egyptian, and Roman fortifications. It lies about 15 mi. (24 km.) south of Gaza.
