Theological / Devotional

Ten princes. All the tribes west of the Jordan were represented, together with Phinehas from the tribe of Levi. Everyone who accompanied him was the chief of his father’s house, and probably the actual head of the tribe. A deputation of this kind would probably represent the highest court in the land. To Israel the supposed transgression committed by the two and a half tribes was considered a serious breach of divine law, and the personnel constituting the delegation indicated with what gravity they regarded the act.
