An expression such as this is called “prophetic perfect,” and is used to emphasize the certainty of fulfillment. The doom of Jericho was thus irrevocably assured. As far as its inhabitants were concerned, they had had ample opportunity to seek salvation of the God of Israel. Had they so desired, they might all, like Rahab and her family, have been saved. God “will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4).
