Theological / Devotional

Not all the people. According to ch. 8:25, the population of Ai was 12,000. Evidently the spies, in their self-confidence, had underestimated the defenses of the city. But more than that, the Israelites, flushed with victory, failed to realize that divine help alone could give them success, and neglected to take God into their counsel when planning to take Ai.
