Theological / Devotional

Dispossessed the Amorites. The land that the Israelites took from the Amorites became theirs, irrespective of who had been its previous owners. They had not fought against the Ammonites, or captured their land (Num. 21:24; Deut. 2:37).

Shouldest thou possess it? By the primitive law of the nations this territory was clearly Israel’s. Why do the Ammonites think they have title to it? Jephthah’s question is one of indignant surprise.
