And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told [it] me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told [it] my father nor my mother, and shall I tell [it] thee?

Wept before him. Samson’s riddle had the effect of making the wedding feast not a season of rejoicing, but of distress. The weeping, fretting bride and sullen guests should have served as a warning to Samson that Philistine marriages brought distress and sadness in their train.
Tell it thee. Samson replies that he had not even told his parents and that his unwillingness to disclose the riddle to her, whom he had known but a short time, was no proof of lack of love.
