Theological / Devotional

Played the whore. Some of the LXX and Latin manuscripts read “was angry with him.” The Jewish Targums also support this reading. This idea is thought to fit the context better, for when the Levite went after her, he did not scold, but spoke kindly in order to placate her. However, these considerations do not seem to supply a sufficient ground for departing from the reading of the Hebrew.
