Theological / Devotional

Smote them. After many of the townspeople had gone to work in the fields, Abimelech’s men attacked and ruthlessly destroyed them. It is difficult to understand how the inhabitants of Shechem foolishly believed that Abimelech would be content with the banishment of Gaal and not follow up his initial victory by an attack upon the city.
