Theological / Devotional

Yoke. The prophet’s intent is to show that Jerusalem now realizes that her transgressions (see on v. 5) are the direct cause of her punishment — her sins are a yoke about her neck. God had once broken the yoke of servitude for His people (Jer. 2:20), but they in turn had broken His yoke of service (Jer. 5:5; see Ps. 2:3). Now they receive another yoke of servitude (see Jer. 27:2 ; 28:14; 30:8).
