Leviticus 16:20

An end of reconciling. The blood of the Lord’s goat offered on the Day of Atonement cleansed the holiest, the holy, and the altar of burnt offering, of “the uncleanness of the children of Israel” and “of their transgressions in all their sins” (vs. 16, 19). The people had previously obtained forgiveness for these same sins, when in the daily service they brought their personal sacrifices for sin. The blood was placed on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and the penitent went away forgiven. It is stated repeatedly that “the priest shall make an atonement for him . . ., and it shall be forgiven him” (ch. 4:26, 31, 35). However, though the sin was forgiven, the record of the sin remained until the Day of Atonement, when it was “blotted out.” And when this had taken place there was “an end of reconciling” (see on v. 16).
