Theological / Devotional

The cake was to be eaten the same day to promote sanitation, social interaction, and liberality to the poor. In a warm country, food spoils quickly, especially away from home.

The offerer would invite others to share, making the occasion a solemn but happy family gathering (Psalm 42:4; Isaiah 30:29). Levites, among the poor, were to be remembered (Deuteronomy 12:19-12). Christ’s instruction to invite the poor to feasts (Luke 14:12-13) reiterates this.
