Theological / Devotional

Thou shalt have joy. Verses 14-18 are in the metrical form characteristic of Hebrew poetry, in which there is rhythm and repetition of thought rather than of measure and sound. The birth of a son to Elisabeth would bring Zacharias personal joy, but this personal joy would become a joy to all who should heed the message of the son and thereby be “prepared for the Lord” (v. 17; ch. 2:32).
