Theological / Devotional

That they might accuse him. Textual evidence favors (cf. p. 146) the omission of this clause. For two years spies from the Sanhedrin had dogged the footsteps of Jesus wherever He went in Galilee and Judea (DA 213; see on v. 53). Now they were more active than ever. But the spies heard nothing that could in the slightest degree be construed against Him, except by the wildest distortion and deliberate misrepresentation (see on Matt. 26:59-63).
