Doth he thank? According to the Greek a negative answer is here expected to the question (see on ch. 6:39). Compare the positive answer expected in ch. 17:8.

I trow not. An Old English expression meaning “I think not.” Important textual evidence may be cited (cf. p. 146) for the omission of these words.
