Theological / Devotional

They that were sent. Probably including both the “elders” and the “friends,” at least the latter. They did not have far to go (see on v. 6), and could verify the miracle immediately.

Whole. From the Gr. hugiaino, “to be in health,” a common medical term (cf. Luke 5:31 ; 3 John 2).

That had been sick. Important textual evidence may be cited (cf. p. 146) for the omission of these words.
