Theological / Devotional

Straightway. Gr. ehtheos, “immediately,” “forthwith,” a favorite word with Mark. If, as is commonly thought, Mark wrote his Gospel with the assistance of Peter (see p. 564), this characteristic may reflect the vigorous, graphic, and sparkling manner of Peter’s preaching.

Opened. Gr. schizo, which is a stronger term than that used by the other gospel writers, equivalent to “rend asunder.”
