Theological / Devotional

With authority. Not only did Jesus preach with authority (Matt. 7:29; Mark 1:22); He acted with authority. Jewish exorcists used incantations, charms, and other superstitious procedures in their endeavor to cast out evil spirits. Jesus spoke a single word, and the demons left immediately. Spirits, as well as men, acknowledged the authority of the Son of God.

The healing of the nobleman’s son had stirred the city of Capernaum (see on John 4:53). Now its people witnessed an even greater manifestation of the power of God.
