Theological / Devotional

Send them away. The disciples could see no solution to the problem but to dismiss the people. But the “compassion” of Jesus (see v. 34) extended to their physical well-being as well as to their spiritual.

Bread. That is, food in general, anything edible (literally, “what they were to eat”).

Nothing to eat. Textual evidence favors (cf. p. 146) the omission of these words, which are, however, clearly implied by the context.
