Theological / Devotional

When ye come. Literally, “as ye are entering.” The salutation was to be simultaneous with the entering. Although this instruction applied in a special way to the house in which the disciples would find lodging, it included all homes visited during the course of their labors. The disciples were to work from home to home, and not, at this time, to attempt public ministry in the synagogues.

Salute it. Textual evidence may be cited (cf. p. 146) for the alternate reading “saying, Peace be to this house.”
