Theological / Devotional

The servants. Christ did not give any explanation as to whom the servants in the parable represent, probably a good indication that their identity is of no importance so far as the truth the parable represents is concerned. Their presence is merely incidental to the narrative (see p. 204).

Householder. Gr. oikodespotes, that is, the “lord of the house” (see on Luke 2:29). The one who sowed the good seed is said to be “the Son of man” (Matt. 13:37). This identification ties the parable of the Tares very closely to that of the Sower, the Seed, and the Soils (see on v. 3).
