Theological / Devotional

Of Christ. That is, of the “Anointed One,” or the “Messiah” (see on ch. 1:1). Here Jesus uses the term “Christ,” not as a personal name, but as a title. The Jews acknowledged the Messiah (Christ) of prophecy, but denied, of course, that Jesus was that Messiah.
