Your house. Only the day before Jesus had referred to the Temple as “my house” (ch. 21:13). Now it was “your house.” Christ’s words must have struck terror to the hearts of priests and rulers. This declaration may also have come before their minds during the course of His trial (see ch. 26:61—64). The rent veil three days later was a visible sign that God no longer accepted the meaningless round of forms and ceremonies that were, for nearly 40 years longer, carried on there (see ch. 27:51). It was now the midst of the prophetic week of Dan. 9:27, and so far as Heaven was concerned the value of sacrifice and oblation was about to cease forever. See on Matt. 24:3, 15; cf.
