Noise. The prophet here describes the sounds of the advance of the besieging armies, even as he has already described their outward appearance (ch. 2:3, 4). He hears, as it were, the charioteers’ cracking of whips, the rumble of chariot wheels, the galloping horses, and the leaping forward of the chariots.
