Commentary on Nehemiah 10:1

Theological / Devotional

Tirshatha. The Persian title for “governor” (see on Ezra 2:63). Nehemiah, whose influence was no doubt behind the long address of the Levites recorded in the preceding chapter, may have been the spiritual father of the covenant now to be concluded. He set an example by being first to sign the document.

Zidkijah. Probably a high official. However, nothing further is known regarding him. It has been assumed that after the analogy of Ezra 4:9, 17 he was the secretary to the governor.
