Theological / Devotional

I arose in the night. Hitherto Nehemiah had communicated his purpose to no one except the king of Persia. He expected opposition, and had decided to baffle his opponents as long as possible by concealing his exact plans. Making his survey of the wall by night, he hoped to escape observation. For this reason also he took with him only a few attendants, and but one mount. Anxious to see with his own eyes the extent of the damage to the wall and how much repair was needed, he also sought to attract as little attention as possible.
