Theological / Devotional

Fowls. Although chickens are never clearly mentioned in the Old Testament, their existence in Palestine at this time is attested by the Jaazaniah seal found at Tell en-Nasbeh in 1932, which shows a picture of a fighting cock. The earliest reference to chickens in Egypt dates from the time of Thutmose III in the 15th century, when they were introduced to the Nile country from Syria. Doves and geese may also have been included in the collective term “fowls.”
