Theological / DevotionalHe read. “He” must refer to Ezra, although he has not been mentioned since verse 13.
The systematic, day-by-day reading of the law may imply that this was a sabbatical year, and that the rehearsal commanded in Deuteronomy 31:10-13 took place.
They kept the feast. See Leviticus 23:34; Numbers 29:12-34; Deuteronomy 16:13.
The eighth day. This solemnizing of the eighth day was commanded in Leviticus 23:36 and Numbers 29:35.
According unto the manner. It is possible that a regularly established custom is referred to, one indication of many that the feast had been observed continuously.
