Theological / Devotional

He that gathereth the ashes. The ashes were a purifying means for the repentant one who used them, but a defiling agent to the one who gathered them together.

Unto the stranger. The law of purity applied also to the non-Israelite. Similarly, the remission of sins through Jesus Christ was also for the “stranger” who was “afar off” (Acts 2:39).
