Theological / Devotional

In the beginnings. This may have been given by God to offset the idolatrous celebrations of each new moon, centering of course in the worship of the moon. Silver trumpets were then blown (ch. 10:2, 10). In later years business was suspended on this day (Amos 8:5; 1 Sam. 20:5; Isa. 1:13).
