Theological / Devotional

The captives. The conquest of this tribe of Midianites was complete. The “captives” were the women and children; the “prey,” the camels, oxen, sheep, and goats; and the “spoil,” the precious metals, jewels, clothing, etc.

The congregation. Perhaps a reference to the 70 elders and the princes of the tribes, who represented the people.

The plains of Moab. From where they had set out to give battle to the Midianites (see chs. 22:1; 26:3, 63).
