Theological / Devotional

Silver dross. Probably litharge, or lead monoxide, which forms a glaze upon the earthen vessel and makes the vessel smooth and pleasant to the touch while the materials beneath are rough and of little value. Kisses that simulate true affection may mask a wicked and designing heart (see Matt. 23:27). The mouth may speak warm words of friendship while the heart is cold and self-seeking.
