Romans 11:19

Thou wilt say. Paul has previously explained that the rejection of the Jews has resulted in the enriching of the Gentiles (see on vs. 11-15). But it would be selfish and arrogant to assume, as in this supposed reply, that God had cast away some of His people for the sole and direct purpose of bringing the blessings of salvation to the Gentiles, as if they were of more value than the Jews. The selfishness is indicated in the Greek by the emphatic personal pronoun ego, “I,” in the phrase “that I might be graffed in.”

The branches. Textual evidence attests (cf. p. 10) the omission of the article. Not all the branches were broken off.
