Theological / Devotional

Receive. Or, “welcome” (cf. ch. 14:1). This is a general conclusion to the whole argument beginning in ch. 14. Believers are to acknowledge one another as Christians and to treat one another as such, even though they may have different opinions about minor matters. If Christ was willing to receive us, with all our weaknesses (Luke 5:32 ; 15:2), we should surely be ready to accept one another.

One another. Paul addresses this appeal to the strong and the weak alike.

Us. Textual evidence is divided (cf. p. 10) between this and the reading “you.”

To the glory of God. These words may refer grammatically either to Christ’s reception of sinners or to our acceptance of one another. Either act serves to promote the glory of God.
