Concerning that he raised. Paul turns directly to resurrection here, indicating he may not have discussed it specifically in v. 33.

To corruption. Unlike Lazarus, who died again after resurrection, Christ’s body did not decompose. Though forever “the man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim. 2:5; Heb. 2:9-18), He is eternally exalted and glorified (1 Cor. 15:20-25; Phil. 2:9-11).

Sure mercies of David. Or “holy, faithful [mercies or blessings] of David.” A quotation from LXX Isa. 55:3, where Hebrew may be translated “true, steadfast love for David.” Greek hosios, here “holy,” often represents Hebrew chesed, “mercy,” “steadfast love.” Paul likely used the LXX, the Greek Bible of Jewish believers. The “sure mercies” God promised David included an eternal kingdom (2 Sam. 7:16), realized through Christ, David’s Son. This broad understanding is indicated by Isa. 55:3’s promise of an everlasting covenant, the sure mercies of David. Christ’s resurrection victory fulfilled this covenant and established David’s promised kingdom.
