Theological / Devotional

Be it known unto you. Apostolic preaching characteristically climaxed with direct application (Acts 2:36 ; 7:51).

Men and brethren. See v. 15.

Is preached. Present tense emphasizes forgiveness is being proclaimed at that moment.

Forgiveness of sins. The gospel’s happy news bringing rejoicing to sin-burdened hearts (1 John 1:9). It was Paul’s preaching’s keynote (Acts 26:18), as Peter’s (Acts 2:38; 5:31; 10:43). It was John the Baptist’s burden (Mark 1:4) and Jesus’ (Matt. 9:2, 6; Luke 7:47, 48 ; 24:47).
