Theological / Devotional

James. This is probably the brother of the Lord and leader of the church at Jerusalem. See on ch. 12:17.

Men and brethren. See on chs. 1:16; 2:37; 13:15.

Hearken. James’s summary ignores the “much disputing” (v. 7). Peter’s insight (vs. 7-11) accorded with OT prophecy, and upon this fact James based his decision.
